This song is a soundtrack for the “Mustafa Shokay” movie.

“Mustafa Shokai” is a movie filmed at “Kazakhfilm” studio, devoted to one of the most controversial personalities in the history of Kazakhstan and of the Central Asia countries. Who was this man – a patriot or a traitor to his people’s homeland? A hero who saved lives of one hundred and eighty thousand Turks prisoners from nazi camps or the founder of the Turkestan Legion of Wehrmacht?

Soviet historiography tried to erase the name of Mustafa Shokay from folk memory, labeling him as a traitor and a collaborator of Hitler. But when at the end of the last century many of the formerly closed historical archives became available, many new facts came to light  to refute previously established views and assertions. From the works of the Mustafa Shokay and diaries of his wife – Maria Gorina-Shokay, as well as other sources, Mustafa Shokay’s image emerges as of a highly educated, charismatic man, the leader and staunch patriot of his people, who devoted his life to fight for the rights of Turks (Turkic people – Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrghyz, Azerbaijan, etc.) in World War II. He managed to save tens of thousands of war prisoners from the Nazi concentration camps.
